Traumatic Events: Resources for Families

Traumatic Events: Resources for Families
Posted on 03/23/2021
Dear Jeffco Families and Staff,

Jeffco Public Schools and the Board of Education are saddened by the tragic events that took place in Atlanta and Boulder these last few days. We share the heartbreak of the families, coworkers, and friends of the victims and, especially, of the Colorado community that again faces another act of violence.

When incidents like these occur, we hear stories about the heroes - of people helping each other, supporting each other and showing kindness, of communities coming together. We honor the dedicated first responders who work tirelessly in response to these incidents, and our thoughts are with the family of Officer Eric Talley.

We know many struggle to understand events like these, worry about safety, and can feel overwhelming sadness. Our social-emotional support staff are prepared to serve students and families. We have resources to assist community members on our Mental Health Services webpage. There you will find a variety of supports, including:

Our strongest resource is communication, as it is vital to navigating these painful events. Keeping an eye out for each other is the best safety measure for our children, students, staff, and our community. Please take time to connect with loved ones and share openly.

If anyone in our community has a concern about a student or issue within Jeffco, this can be shared anonymously via www.Safe2Tell.org or by calling 877-542-7233. Concerns can also be shared with school administrators.

In closing, we encourage you to connect with the young people in your life. Together we can support our children and each other.

Kind regards,

Kristopher Schuh
Interim Superintendent
