Arvada K-8 receives new furniture as part of bond improvements roll out“It's telling kids that they are important and that they get the best of the best in their classrooms,” says Scott Simon, principal of Arvada K-8, one of the many schools on the receiving end of bond improvements during the 2019 summer months.

The $567 million voter-approved bond measure has kicked into high gear over the summer. Tim Reed, Executive Director of Facilities and Construction Management explains, “One of the things we wanted to do was get something started in every articulation area just to show the taxpayers that we were spending the bond money.”

Arvada K-8 receives new furniture as part of 2018 BondTwo schools in the district, Arvada K8 and Evergreen High School welcomed students back to school with their improvements – in the form of modern and colorful furniture and a new sports field. The new furniture at Arvada K-8 replaced existing desks and chairs that were over 20 years old. Kindergarten teacher Alex Huff adds, “it helps set the tone for the year. It's already brightened our building…kind of gives you a little bit of a boost walking in the door knowing that you have all these new supplies, new furniture.”

The mountain communities now have a brand new sports field at Evergreen High School. Important to the students, but serving as a central hub of activity for the Evergreen area, Brandon Brekke, Evergreen HS principal explains,” A lot of the community groups use our fields from little kids on up to senior leagues for all kinds of activities and so it's a benefit not just for our student body but for thousands of people in the surrounding area who use this campus on a weekly basis.”

Other bond improvement projects will continue over the winter and spring months, even as students continue their learning. Look for more exciting news in the coming weeks that features new school builds, additions, overhauls and more and watch for #jeffcobuilds on our social media channels.
