Jeffco Builds: School Safety Updates

Promises Kept - Bond Safety and Security Upgrades
Posted on 09/02/2019
Glazers at Lawrence Elementary Install New Security GlassNew furniture. New athletic fields. New playgrounds. These are the most visible aspects of the 2018 voter-approved bond program. Less visible, but arguably more important, are the installations of safety and security upgrades at schools across the district -- making Jeffco students safer.

At Lawrence Elementary in Arvada, new laminated exterior glass is going in. Nearly sixty Jeffco elementary schools are getting these same glass upgrades this year -- with middle schools and high schools to follow.

Troy Antil, Jeffco Construction Project Manager, reiterated the importance of the bond for student safety,  “I will tell you what. That bond was really needed. Safety and Security for Jeffco is a top priority.”

In addition to the glass installation, additional safety and security cameras are being installed. These additional cameras give Jeffco Safety and Security an extra edge when responding to emergencies. Footage can be pulled up -- on demand -- either in a dispatch center or in patrol vehicle.

“We have complied with what the voters asked in the area of safety and security,” said Steve Bell, Jeffco Chief Operating Officer. “We are doing something unprecedented in this school district...I thank the voters for their confidence in us -- this is really exciting.”
