This session will give an overview of the district and the Jeffco Generations vision, then focus on Jeffco’s Strategic Plan. Learn how the vision is being put into practice, and how success is being measured.

School Finance: Understanding How Jeffco Public Schools are Funded

Presenters: Kathleen Askelson, Chief Financial Officer and Nicole Stewart, Budget and Treasury Director

This presentation breaks down how public schools are funded in Colorado – the funding formula set annually by legislation per the School Finance Act, pupil counts and the BS (Budget Stabalization)Factor to how local share impacts state share, the difference between bonds, mill levies and mill levy overrides and where the pot money really goes. You will also learn about oversight, accountability, transparency, the budgeting process using the School Based Budgeting (SBB) and Budgeting For Outcomes (BFO) models, and resources to help you talk dollars and sense around Jeffco’s finances.
