How does a Mill Levy Override help students?

various photos of teachers and students

A mill levy override is a voter-approved property tax that is used for ongoing expenses and needs such as attracting and retaining quality teachers and staff.

Our Board of Education has approved a $33 million mill levy override ballot initiative.

These funds stay local to help Jeffco Public Schools. Put simply, a mill levy is about students and staff – it brings classrooms to life.

Jeffco Public Schools last passed a $39 million mill in 2012. Voters did not pass the 2016 $33 million mill levy override request.

Mill Levy Override Uses

  • Increase competitiveness with surrounding districts to attract and retain quality teachers and staff
  • Increase school safety and security including increased mental health supports and counseling
  • Expand career/technical education and STEM options
  • Improve classroom materials and technology
  • Expand full-day early childhood education
  • Support charter schools

What's the Tax Impact?

For the $33 million mill levy override, a taxpayer would experience a $2.10/month increase per $100K in residential value.

  • $300K home = $6.31/month
  • $500K home = $10.52/month

Nonresidential taxes would increase $101.64/year for every $100K of property value.

*These are estimates.
