Facilities & Construction Had a Busy Summer

Facilities & Construction Had a Busy Summer
Posted on 08/14/2018

summer 2018 workWhile most of us were enjoying our downtime over the summer, the Facilities and Construction Management departments were busy tackling projects at 70 percent of our schools.

Many of these improvements are easy to see. For example, Secrest Elementary, Bergen Valley Intermediate, Edgewater Elementary, and Lukas Elementary all received new flooring. Conifer High School and Evergreen Middle Schools now have LED lighting in their auditorium and library, respectively. Lukas also installed a new playground, as did Governor’s Ranch Elementary, while Parmalee Elementary installed a new play pad. Elk Creek Elementary’s parking lot was also repaved, which will hopefully make for a more pleasant drop-off and pick-up.

Other projects weren’t as easy to see. For example, Green Mountain High School’s HVAC system got some much-needed updates. Evergreen Middle School also had work done on its irrigation system, while Elk Creek replaced the wastewater treatment system on site. Irrigation systems were added to Molholm Elementary and Allendale Elementary.

Ninety buildings in the district also upgraded the security locksets, to make classrooms more safe and secure in emergency situations.

One of two major projects throughout the district was repairing hail damage from the May 2017 hail storm. More than 70 facilities in Jeffco needed repairs, including school buildings, the Ed Center, and stadiums.

The second major project was preparing middle schools for new sixth-graders at six of our middle schools.

  • Oberon Middle School Renovation: six new classrooms
  • Carmody Middle School Renovation: classroom and cafeteria expansion
  • Manning Middle School Renovation: eight classrooms and air conditioning improvements
  • Everitt Middle School Renovation: three new classrooms
  • Bell Middle School Renovation: five new classrooms, cafeteria addition, school-wide flooring, and HVAC upgrades
  • Arvada K-8 Renovation: art, general, SPED classroom, and restroom updates
  • Dunstan Middle School: eight classroom addition
  • Drake Middle School: 15 classroom addition

Finally, the work at Sierra Elementary was completed with the demolition of the old building, which is now a lush green field.

That was a lot. Thank you to the Facilities and Construction Management departments for all their hard work, keeping our schools working and making them a more pleasant place to be.
