Board of Education

The Jefferson County Board of Education is the policy-making body of the school district. Its powers and duties are set by state law. The Board is responsible for educational planning and evaluation, staffing and appraisal, school facilities, financial resources and communication. The Board acts as a court of appeal for staff members, students and the public on issues involving board policy or implementation of that policy.

Board of Education Members

Board of Education Members

The Board is composed of five members elected to alternating four-year terms. Elections are held every two years. Board members are elected at large, but represent a specific area of the county - their representative district. Board members are not paid; they give freely of their time to serve the community. After each School Board election, the Board chooses its officers for the next two years. If a vacancy occurs, the Board names an appointee to serve until the next election.

Board Recognitions

Guidelines for Board Recognitions

One of the goals of Jeffco’s Board of Education is to recognize the accomplishments of Jeffco Public Schools staff, students, and community members who advance the district’s vision and mission, and uphold the values outlined in Jeffco’s strategic plan, Jeffco Thrives 2025.

The Board’s recognition program selects individuals who go above and beyond to achieve an award/accomplishment and exemplify the district’s values. Each month at a regular board meeting during the school year, these individuals are celebrated by the Board.

Any Team Jeffco employee can nominate an individual by completing a recognition form. Criteria for nominations is included below. Jeffco’s Board of Education members will review submissions to determine which individuals fit the criteria and select a handful to recognize each month.

The following criteria will be used to determine the Board recognitions:
