General Description

Two Options:

“High School Select”: Students may enroll in college-level classes offered on our high school campuses, taught by Jeffco Schools teachers, during the regular school day.  These courses are tuition-free to students.


“Campus Select”: Students may enroll in college-level classes offered on an approved college campus with prior district approval. Jeffco will pay tuition for these courses, and the student is responsible for textbooks, materials, and fees.


Two Options:

Local colleges award credit to our students at a nominal cost that the student is responsible to pay. Students/Families must contact the schools directly to find out about Dual Enrollment offerings.


With prior approval from the high school principal, a student can enroll at approved colleges and take courses. The student is responsible to pay all tuition costs and fees.

Both the Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs give high school students an opportunity to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Depending on the college they attend, these courses can lead to advanced placement (skipping entry-level courses) or sometimes even receiving college credit.

Type of Courses

College level courses. Guaranteed Transfer (GT) courses, Industry Certificate courses and/or college elective courses. (These courses may or may not transfer. Students are responsible for contacting colleges/universities.)

Advanced courses that students could earn college credit. College credit is determined by test scores at the individual college/university.

Student Eligibility

Two Options:

Concurrent Enrollment courses taught on a high school Campus OR Concurrent Enrollment taught on an approved College Campus. Both must have a District MOU in place.

Students must meet the college prerequisites /assessment scores and complete the approved registration process.


Concurrent Enrollment courses taught on the approved College Campus.

Only for students who have exhausted all Jeffco course offerings and still need academic credit towards graduation. Students also need qualifying test scores determined by the approved college.

The Student is responsible for providing the high school an official transcript of the completed course to be transcribed on the high school transcript.

Two Options:

Students are enrolled in a Dual Enrollment course at their high school and complete the registration process. Both must have an individual school MOU in place.


With prior approval from the high school principal students can enroll at approved colleges and take courses.

The student is responsible for providing the high school with an official transcript of the completed course(s) to be transcribed on the high school transcript.

Students are only allowed to take 2.0 credits outside of Jeffco.

Various high school campuses, or on approved college campuses when a student has met eligibility requirements and has received district approval.

High school teachers meeting HLC Guidelines with approval to teach the course for college credit, with college curriculum, college textbooks, and overseen by college faculty and staff.

High school teachers, if the course is on the high school campus. If the student is taking a course on an approved college campus it is taught by a college teacher.

High School teachers who have met the requirements established by the College Board.

Cost to Student

COF stipend applied. Jeffco pays remaining student tuition. Students are responsible for additional fees, certification tests, books, fees, etc.

Students are responsible for course fee, books and assessment fee. Students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch (FRL), may qualify for a full or partial waiver.

Courses are offered in 9th–12th grades, and offerings vary by school.

Transferability

It is the student’s responsibility to work with the college to determine the college credits will transfer. College credits may be considered Guaranteed Transfer (GT), college elective and/or applied towards an Industry Certificate.

It is the student’s responsibility to work with the college to determine if credits in these courses will transfer.

Upon completion of the course, students take a standardized exam. Scores from the exams are considered by colleges, and varying levels of credit are awarded depending on the degree the student is seeking.

Risk

In accordance with state law all CE and DE grades will be transcribed on the high school and college transcript. There is no guarantee that students will pass the course.
