Looking Back at 2021

Our Year of Construction

Lumberg Groundbreaking

It was a busy and exciting year for the Jeffco Public Schools Bond and Capital Improvement program. We saw many projects celebrate completion, while also kicking off construction on large additions and facility replacements.

Throughout the entire year, our Construction Management team worked with evolving public health guidelines in order to continue projects. These are just a few (amongst the many!) highlights from our 2021 year of construction.

New Projects Break Ground Throughout the year, we broke ground on projects across the district, and were thrilled to be back in-person for these events – sharing in the excitement with students, staff, and community members.

Up in Indian Hills, Parmalee Elementary broke ground on their addition and renovation early in the year and it has been full steam ahead ever since. Finishing touches are being wrapped up and we can't wait to get a tour to see this transformation!

In the same week, Foster Dual-Language k-8 also marked the beginning of their school addition and renovation. This project added much needed space in the facility- giving their middle school classes a permanent home in the building. The Foster project is awaiting a few final touches but was able to welcome in students at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.

We also broke ground on two of our three replacement facilities - at Marshdale Elementary and Prospect Valley Elementary. Each community came together to celebrate the beginning of their project - with alumni, educators, parents, and community leaders attending to share in the excitement. The new Marshdale Elementary is slated to be completed in the fall of 2022, with Prospect Valley Elementary following in the early spring of 2023.

Groundbreakings 2021

Groundbreakings were also held at Lumberg Elementary, Pomona High School, and D’Evelyn High School - to mark the beginning of their construction. We will be sure to keep the community informed on these (and many other) projects that will continue construction into 2022.

Cutting the Ribbon at Completed Projects

While many of our schools kicked-off construction jobs this year, we were also celebrating completed projects with ribbon cuttings and tours of these amazing facilities.

Before the end of the 2020-21 school year, we were able to celebrate – safely and in-person – the completion of the new Kendrick Lakes Elementary school. It was a perfect early spring day, with the entire Kendrick Lakes community and school mascot (a lovable and energetic dolphin!) all attended the celebration. The nearly 66,000 square foot building gives the Kendrick Lakes community 22 brand new classrooms that all encompass flexible design - allowing the spaces to grow with the changing needs of the school and its educators. The building is colorful, bright, and fun – truly embodying the spirit of the Kendrick Lakes community.

Later in the year, we marked the completion of Warren Tech South – making it the third campus for Jeffco’s premier Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center. The school’s program offerings include Aircraft Maintenance Technology, Audio Production, Aviation Technology, Hospitality & Event Management, Live Sound & Event Production, Physical Therapy, and Video Production. After the groundbreaking event,  we were able to walk through the new facility with Superintendent Dorland. Students and educators  talked to the Superintendent about their programs and how the Warren Tech South facility gives them the capability to teach and learn about these specialties.

We also celebrated building additions and renovations that wrapped up in 2021. Special events were held at Columbine High School, Conifer High School, Green Mountain High School, Bell Middle School, Wayne Carle Middle School, and The Manning School.

Brightening Spaces with Interior Renovations and Outdoor Improvements

It doesn’t take an addition or major renovation to totally transform the look and feel of a school. For many of these facilities, improvements like paint, flooring, furniture and lighting makes a huge difference. At 21 of our schools, these “Summer Wonders” projects were all started and completed in 2021.

This summer, we also transformed four of our schools’ outdoor athletic facilities — replacing turf fields and cinder tracks, with artificial turf and all-weather tracks — creating safe and functional spaces that are more durable for our student-athletes while meeting the increased demands being placed on athletic facilities. These were the final four track and field projects of the 2018 bond. Bringing our facilities up to par with our neighboring districts.

Looking Forward to 2022

Many new and exciting projects are on the horizon for the new year. Be sure to check Jeffcobuilds.org to learn more about these renovations and improvements happening across the district.
