This is the image for the news article titled Our Fall 2020 Restart PlanWe are pleased to provide you with our final version of the Jeffco Restart Plan.

100% In-Person and 100% Remote Learning Options in August

Jeffco Public Schools believes in-person learning plays an important role in the academic and social development of students. In-person learning will be available in all grade levels, PreK-12, beginning the week of August 24th. We are beginning our school year with a one-week delay to provide all Jeffco staff with the opportunity to train and prepare for a safe and healthy in-person learning environment.

100% capacity means that all students have the option of attending school in person, five days a week, Monday through Friday. Students and families who wish to choose a remote/online learning environment have that option at the school in which they are enrolled.

Survey Feedback

Over the past months, Jeffco staff and our community have provided feedback, questions, and insights as we rolled out the previous two drafts of the Restart Plan. We have reviewed, analyzed, and considered all of that feedback in this final version of the Restart Plan. Thank you for your participation and support throughout the development process.

Health and Safety

While schools will provide in-person learning five days a week, mandatory safety, health, and hygiene protocols aligned with guidance from public health will be followed and contribute to a different school experience. As staff and students return to the classroom, important safety protocols will be in place to limit exposure and transmission of COVID-19. Among them:

  • 6' social distancing will be practiced to the fullest level possible
  • Staff and student face coverings are required when social distancing cannot be maintained with consideration for exceptions, if necessary, for the health and wellness of certain students or staff
  • Symptom screening
  • Student grouping limitations wherever possible
  • Regular hand washing
  • Shared items and school materials will be reduced
  • Increased building ventilation and fresh air mixture to the greatest extent possible
  • Use of common spaces - cafeteria, gymnasium, auditoriums - is prohibited for large and mixed-group use
  • Enhanced cleaning and decontamination of buildings and buses

If a virus outbreak requires the closure of the district, individual schools, or affects specific groups of students, we will be ready to serve students in a remote environment as outlined in our Remote Learning Plan | Español.

For the health and wellness of our staff, we will consider appropriate and timely mitigating measures, that may include changes to worksite setup or worksite location. More information about this process will be provided to staff in July.

Guidance on Reading the Plan

We encourage everyone to read the Restart Plan in its entirety. We have created an Executive Summary for your convenience to highlight the primary topics of interest, which are then expanded upon in greater detail within the full document.

After reviewing the plan, we are asking every family/student to complete a form to tell us their choice for in-person or remote learning. It’s important that every family fill out this form (one per student) so that schools will have information about which students are returning to in-person learning, and which students will choose to continue learning in a remote format. This data will help schools develop their building-level plans for the start of school.

Additional work will continue connected to specific planning, logistics, school schedule development, staffing, and other details for each school. We will implement various engagement activities to support staff, students, and families through the transition process to return to in-person learning. We have also developed RestartJeffco.com, a dedicated website to support the information needs of families, students, and staff on the return to school.

The Reality of Our Changing Environment

While the Restart Plan presents our best thinking to date, we also recognize (and have experienced) that much can change when it comes to managing our response to this virus. Between now and the start of school, we expect to receive even more feedback from our staff and community as we work to train and set up the protocols and procedures necessary to ensure public health for our in-person learning model. We should expect changes in the way the virus is affecting our community, state, nation, and world. We will need to be flexible and adaptable, shifting our approach as conditions change. If there are public health orders, government directives, or other factors requiring a change to our intention to open schools for in-person learning, we will modify our plans to ensure the safety and health of our students, staff, and community.
