The Board of Education overseeing Jeffco Public Schools voted unanimously on Thursday, December 15 to extend Superintendent Tracy Dorland’s contract for three years. Board President Stephanie Schooley issued the following statement on behalf of the Jeffco Board of Education:
Dear Jeffco Community,
As I think about where Jeffco is headed, I am confident that we have the right leader at the helm. Since she was named superintendent in April 2021, Tracy Dorland has kept students at the center of key decisions, demonstrated strategic thinking and action, and made progress in cultivating positive and productive relationships.
At this Board’s request, she did the hard and courageous work of leading through a school closure recommendation. She has also successfully readied our District for new start times in the 2023-24 school year. Most importantly, Superintendent Dorland is in the process of implementing a comprehensive three-year strategic plan – Jeffco Thrives 2025 – with a focus on a culture of instructional excellence and extraordinary student experiences that recognize our students’ strengths, challenge them to improve, and support them to succeed.
She is organizing both our central services and schools around these focuses and in support of our District mission to provide a world-class education that prepares all Jeffco students for bright and successful futures as local and global citizens.
In recognition of her achievements thus far and the clear and compelling direction she has set for Jeffco, the Board voted to approve a three-year extension of Superintendent Dorland’s contract through the end of the 2026-2027 school year. We believe in the vision that our superintendent set, and we feel it is critical that she has the opportunity to see it through. With this action, we are committing to stability, which has long been absent here in Jeffco.
The stability that allows the Jeffco Board and the superintendent to make progress together in our leadership and in a collective and collaborative approach to providing the educational experiences our students need and deserve.
