Student Data Map

Jeffco Schools began a Data Governance (DG) program in 2013 in response to growing public concerns about the protection of student data privacy. The DG program’s goal is to fundamentally revisit how data is managed in Jeffco Schools throughout its entire lifecycle and across the organization, with the stated goal of being a K-12 leader in this area. Jeffco Schools has adopted the Data Management Maturity (DMM) framework from CMMI as a best practices roadmap and is currently focused on Data Quality and Data Stewardship as foundational components of a sustainable DG program. Jeffco Schools leadership team wholeheartedly believes this DG work should be a core practice of any organization where data is a strategic asset; and thus should be protected, organized, and fully leveraged to improve performance outcomes for our staff and students.

The graphic below is designed to provide our families with a non-technical representation of the types of Student Personally Identifiable Information (SPII) that we collect in our primary enterprise applications. These applications represent the core of Jeffco’s operational information systems, and the data within these systems is highly managed for security, quality, and appropriate usage.
