Performance Evaluation Committee

Jeffco’s Performance Evaluation Committee (formerly the 1338 Committee) is a diverse group of stakeholders with the objective to provide a vision of what an evaluation system that thinks outside of the checkbox might look like. The members of this committee serve a two-year term and act as an advisory group to the Board of Education through the Superintendent to measure the fairness, effectiveness, credibility, and professional quality of the educator performance evaluation system, along with its processes and procedures.  The committee includes at least one of each of the following:  a Jeffco educator, a Jeffco administrator, a Jeffco principal, a parent with a child attending school in Jeffco, a JCEA member, and a community member who does not have a child in the district.

The 2022-23 school year provided the opportunity  to welcome several new members to the committee, which enhanced the scope of work this year.  The current committee is comprised of 14 members including three teachers, four parents, two community members, three central-based employees, one school leader, and one member of the Jefferson County Education Association (JCEA).  During our bi-monthly meetings, we’ve focused on the expanded pilot self-reflection (6 schools, approximately 200 educators), legislation impacting licensed evaluation requirements, learning about the work that’s been done on the instructional coach rubric, understanding the process, timeline, and the Board’s role in reviewing policies GCO and GCO-R, and sharing input around the creation of a differentiated evaluation process for highly effective educators, per the guidelines outlined in SB 22-070.

While the pilot self-reflection evaluation and the focus on self-reflection, goal setting, and self-directed professional learning only addresses one small part of an educator’s evaluation, the Performance Evaluation Committee believes this is a step in the right direction of the desired outcome to create an evaluation system that supports the concept that genuine and honest communication and feedback from diverse sources creates a safe space for growth. During the 2023-24 school year, the committee will continue the work of determining the appropriate next steps for expanding and/or implementing the pilot self-reflection in the most impactful way, as well as providing input and feedback on the work that will be done to revise the current teacher rubric.
