Board of Education Votes to Extend Superintendent’s Contract
Posted on 03/08/2019
Superintendent & Chief Learner Dr. Jason GlassJeffco Public Schools is pleased to announce that the Board of Education has extended the employment contract of Dr. Jason Glass for an additional five years. This decision was discussed and voted on during the regular board meeting on Thursday, March 7, 2019. The superintendent’s contract is extended until June 30, 2025.

Dr. Glass began serving the district as superintendent on July 1, 2017. During his first year, Dr. Glass built upon the Jeffco 2020 Vision to create the Jeffco Generations Vision and Skills to guide the work of the district forward. A strategic plan was generated and released in October 2017 and is called our Jeffco Generations Strategic Plan.

The plan focuses district efforts on three main strategies with a direct impact on the student learning experience: Learning, Conditions for Learning, and Readiness for Learning. The plan also identifies business operations, financial, and communications strategies that directly support the work of our schools and student learning. The strategic plan’s theory of action holds that if we keep the focus on creating an authentic student experience at the center of our work (Learning), and build repeatable procedures where quality learning can be scaled, replicated, and provided equitably to every student (Conditions for Learning), and create systems to ensure that every student comes to school ready to learn and barriers to learning are removed (Readiness for Learning), then our students will be prepared for successful futures in college, careers, and life.

Dr. Glass led the district through a number of successful efforts during his eighteen months as superintendent. These include the 6th-grade transition to middle schools, organizing several community initiatives such as the School Safety Task Force and the recently launched Food and Nutrition Task Force, and EnrollJeffco, our new online school choice enrollment system. Dr. Glass was integrally involved in the planning and community engagement that led to the Board’s decision to place the mill levy override (5A) and bond (5B) funding questions on the November 2018 ballot. The subsequent approval by the Board’s decision to extend Dr. Glass’s contract recognizes not only his leadership of the organization and development of the strategic plan but also is a strong indication of their desire to ensure continuity of leadership for Jeffco Public Schools.

“Dr. Glass has more than demonstrated that he is the visionary leader we need to have in Jeffco Public Schools,” said Ron Mitchell, president of the Board of Education. “Our progress as a district over the past eighteen months, including the success of our ballot questions with voters last fall, has set the stage for new learning opportunities for our students, improvements to our facilities, and a spirit of optimism within our entire district. We are grateful to Dr. Glass for his service and unanimously approved the extension of his contract.”
