A Year to Remember with Jeffco Builds

Our Busiest Year Yet!

Warren Tech South Groundbreaking

2020 is a year for all of us to remember. While our students and staff shifted between in-person and remote learning, our Construction Management team worked with evolving public health guidelines in order to continue projects -- ensuring on-time and on-budget renovations. It was the busiest year yet for the Jeffco Builds capital improvement program funded in large part by the voter-approved 2018 bonds. During 2020, over $160 million was invested in schools across the district.

Celebrating Completed Projects

While many of our schools kicked-off construction jobs this year, we were also celebrating completed projects with ribbon cuttings. These happened a little differently this year with the need to limit crowds and follow public health protocols.

The addition at Three Creeks K-8 in northwest Arvada in the Candelas neighborhood wrapped up this spring with increased classroom space to meet school demands. Their new wing gives the school additional classrooms needed for its growing student population.

In Evergreen, we joined a group of community members to mark the completion of the Wilmot Elementary school addition which boasts a 13,000 square foot state-of-the-art gymnasium and a new commercial kitchen and cafeteria. Students were given tours of their new spaces, in small groups, - during in-person learning this fall. These discerning constituents gave their new cafeteria and gym a thumbs up!

Finally, the renovations at Arvada High School wrapped up with the completion of their new auxiliary gym. A small group of students and school leaders joined together to cut the ribbon marking the completion of their campus-wide renovations.

New Projects Break Ground

While 2019 was a year of planning and design,  2020 was the year we were able to put shovels in the ground.

This fall, we broke ground at Warren Tech South, the third campus for Jeffco Public Schools' premier Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center. The campus is located on the property of Dakota Ridge High School and is set to open in fall 2021. The school’s program offerings will include Aircraft Maintenance Technology, Audio Production, Aviation Technology, Hospitality & Event Management, Live Sound & Event Production, Physical Therapy, and Video Production.

The Kendrick Lakes Elementary School replacement will be complete in the first quarter of 2020, construction has continued during 2020 with the old school scheduled for demolition this spring and site reclamation over the summer of 2021.

Large renovation projects began at many of our schools this year. These improvements include classroom additions and renovations, modern student meeting spaces, new administrative offices, and athletic facility improvements. Major transformations are taking place at the following schools:

Brightening Spaces with Interior Renovations

For many of our schools, projects like furniture purchasing, painting, and flooring upgrades create huge improvements in the look and feel of their spaces.

At 20 of our schools, new furniture transformed classrooms and administrative offices. Schools including Welchester, Belmar, and Foothills Elementary received new furniture that brightened up their learning environments providing flexibility for students and staff.

Finally, flooring, painting, roofing, and other exterior renovations were completed at 20 of our buildings. At schools like Green Gables, these improvements have greatly transformed classrooms from dark and drab to bright and inspiring.

Looking Forward to 2021

Many new and exciting projects are on the horizon for the new year. Be sure to check Jeffcobuilds.org to learn more about these renovations and improvements happening across the district.
