Physical Education

What is Physical Education?

Physical education is an important, standards based educational component in grades K - 12.  Physical education provides students the “motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to both value and take responsibility for a lifetime of physical activity and wellness.”  (Whitehead, 2016).

Why Physical Education?

Students get a lot of benefits from a quality physical education program!  Physical education can help students become more aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and provides the knowledge to make wise decisions concerning their safety, health and wellbeing (Heroic Hollywood, 2018).  Research has shown a strong correlation between physical fitness and improved academic success.  Plus, healthy students have fewer school absences, which also contributes to increased academic achievement.  Physical education teaches positive social interactions and character development through participation in group activities.
