The Outdoor Lab Foundation, who supports sustains and advocates for the Outdoor Lab program, a 61-year rite of passage in the Jefferson County community with over 385,000 alumni, was voted by readers of
Colorado Community Media 2018 best nonprofit in the Lakewood area.
The Outdoor Lab Foundation embraces the motto:
although students may walk the same trails at Outdoor Lab, they each leave different footprints. The footprint of Outdoor Lab left a significant impact in the Lakewood community through the nomination into the “best of” contest that has been an annual tradition since 2012. Three other nonprofits in the area were nominated for this respected title.
Voting started March 1 and ran through April 6. The distribution of the Colorado Community Media who has hosted the “best of” contest for seven years reaches over 320,000 homes. The distribution through all 20 publications reaches all the way down in Castle Rock and travels all the way back up to the Westminster, Northglenn and Thornton area.
Local Arvada businesses and organizations promote the “best of” contest throughout the community. Readers of Colorado Community Media then nominate organizations in 133 categories. Voting takes place online and the winners of the “best of” contest were selected after April 6.
Shannon Hancock, Executive Director of the Outdoor Lab Foundation said, “It is truly awesome to see the community come together and celebrate Outdoor Lab. To then receive the 2018 “best of” award is an even greater honor. We always strive to be a top nonprofit through innovative ideas. We not only advocate for this beloved program but continue to support the lifetime trail Outdoor Lab provides to the 385,000 alumni that have gone through it. With the support of Arvada, we hope that this will be the first of many “best of” awards.”
