Device Repairs

Device repairs:

  • Students should follow the basic troubleshooting steps before bringing it in for repair. Many devices will get fixed this way.
  • If it still doesn't work, students will take the device to the library. If it is determined that a student's TechforEd device requires physical repair, schools will assign the student a comparable device rather than provide a temporary loaner.
  • The damaged device will be sent to the computer repair department.

Why the change?

Remove delays in repair turnaround time

  • Due to the increased volume of repairs during COVID, the time to repair and return the device continues to expand.  Assigning a new device to the student will eliminate the need to wait for the device to be repaired and returned.

Decrease workload for school staff

  • Eliminating the need to assign temporary loaner devices will remove the need to assign loaners, track the repair process and then return/exchange/reassign devices when the repair was complete.

Minimize the need for school owned loaner devices

  • Removing the need to assign loaner devices will reduce the need for schools to purchase additional devices to be used as loaners.

FAQs

Q: What if my family has previously purchased an Accidental Damage Protection Plan on that serial number?
A: We have a record of all students that have purchased ADP and the length of time it was purchased for and it will continue to be honored until its expiration date.

Q: What if my student took really good care of their device, will they get one in equal condition?
A: Schools have a surplus of devices on hand to assign to students and will try to assign a replacement device of similar condition whenever possible.

Q: My student has stickers all over the case. Will I be charged for a replacement case?
A: Not at this time since the original communication was that students could decorate their cases to personalize them.

Q: What if my student took the case off of the device?
A: It is the expectation that the cases remain on the device to help minimize damages.
