Technology and Data Privacy Advisory Committee

The Technology and Data Privacy Advisory Committee (TDPAC) was created to advise the Board of Education on district technology strategies, systems, and overall data governance. The committee will review the district's technology plan, taking special consideration for alignment with instructional goals and opportunities for technology innovation. Additionally, district privacy policies and practices will be presented to the committee for advisement. The committee encourages continuous improvement of and fosters adherence to district policies, procedures, and practices at all levels.


Purpose

As defined in Board Policies, Board Committee Principles, GP-12, the Committee will:

  • Assess the instructional technology needs of the District to advise on specific goals/targets.
  • Review the technology policies and District Technology Plan to evaluate and advise on issues related to target areas.
  • Draft recommendations in support of how to allocate technology funds associated with infrastructure, integration, innovation, and professional development.
  • Review security policies, data governance, and data privacy standards for best practices and make recommendations to the Board of Education to accept or suggest modifications. Review should focus on:
    • Ensuring policies can be thoughtfully implemented and measured within a defined set of boundaries.
    • Ensuring policies are designed to mitigate risk to the District.
    • Ensuring the effort required by District staff to implement and maintain the policy is appropriate to the risk(s) addressed by the policy and the cost(s) to the District.
    • Ensuring policies are aligned with parental concerns, state / federal legislative efforts, and industry standards.
    • Ensuring policies provide appropriate levels of transparency for families, community members, and district leadership.
  • Review data flows, retention, and access in conformance to the policy/policies.
  • At the request of the Board of Education, report on policy, operational, administrative, and technological processes and procedures within the District which relate to sensitive data, balancing security and privacy, data integrity, and other privacy-related matters.
  • Promote a culture which embraces data privacy throughout the District to include employees, students, parents, contractors, and state/federal partners.
  • Provide, when requested, feedback on current and planned/emerging technologies including risks and impacts on data governance and security policies.
  • Review infrastructure, forecasts for demand, and budget forecast. in the areas of wired/wireless bandwidth, processing, and storage (data center, WAN, and school sites).
  • Review the District's cloud strategy in order to utilize computing technology and/or services whenever possible.
  • Provide insight on industry standards/changes/updates in order to identify and educate district personnel one56 emerging technologies and innovations.

Meetings

TDPAC meetings will be at least quarterly, and more frequently as circumstances dictate. Meetings will be held at the Education Center, 1829 Denver West Drive, Golden.
