Supports For Students Who Are Truant Or In The Court System

Jeffco Public Schools offers support for families, students and school personnel with issues of expulsion, truancy and with students who are currently under legal supervision.


Truancy Support

The Student Engagement Office works with schools and the families of students who have attendance problems or are struggling in school.

The Student Engagement Office works with the Jefferson County Juvenile Assessment Center (720-497-7770) and other county agencies to provide students and parents/guardians with resources.

STUDENTS IN THE COURT SYSTEM

Jeffco Public Schools' Department of School Safety employs Heilit Biehl, Director of Judicial Services and Sumer Schantz, Manager of Judicial Services. Ms. Biehl and Ms. Schantz work with Jeffco School’s at-risk students who are involved in the juvenile justice system, on probation or paroled back into the community. In addition to notifying school administrators regarding criminal charges, Ms. Biehl and Ms. Schantz assist with the threat management process and the development of school safety plans.

Ms. Biehl and Ms. Schantz are available to assist parents/guardians in navigating multiple systems by providing consultation, support in finding resources and making appropriate referrals for services. In addition, they are the liaisons to the Courts, District Attorney's Office, Probation/Diversion, Law Enforcement, Department of Children, Youth and Families, Jefferson Center for Mental Health and the Juvenile Assessment Center.

Their office is located at the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) in the Remington Building in Lakewood, CO.

Mount View Youth Services Center

Mount View Youth Services Center is operated by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Youth Services and provides detention services for the first and fifth judicial districts. Jeffco Public Schools works in partnership with the Division of Youth Services to provide education services onsite to all the youth in residential placement. This program offers classes in social studies, math, language arts, science, elective classes, and allows youth to work towards a high school diploma.  Special education services are also available.
