Every year, the Superintendent and a member of the Board of Education have the unique opportunity to visit Jeffco’s four district art shows to select and purchase student artwork for the permanent collection, which proudly adorns the walls of Jeffco’s Ed Center.
Superintendent Tracy Dorland and Board President Stephanie Schooley were honored to select three pieces of art from the Equity & Excellence Art exhibit this year, displayed at the Ed Center from Feb. 2 through April 4.
The Equity & Excellence Art exhibit showcases K-12 student artwork accompanied by personal statements and written descriptions by the artists explaining the educational process behind each creation.
The selected pieces exemplify the district's values of equity and excellence and celebrate the diverse backgrounds and experiences that make up the Jeffco community.
The first award was presented to Gibson Onwiler, a fifth-grade student from Coal Creek Canyon K-8 for their piece titled "Southeast Desert.”
The second award was presented to Lynnea Mason, a sixth-grade student from Oberon Middle School, for their piece titled "Watercolor Peacock."
The third award was presented to Bianca Castaneda, an eighth-grade student from Arvada K-8, for their piece titled "End of the Day."
Congratulations to these students and a special thanks to their art teachers, Ashley Bain from Coal Creek Canyon K-8, Laurie Counterman from Oberon Middle School, and Jen Troudt from Arvada K-8.
Through the showcased artwork, the district proudly celebrates the artistic talents of its students and highlights the importance of providing a high-quality art program for all students.
