Congratulations to the Arvada West High School girls flag football team, the AWest Wildcats, for winning the state championship!
As CHSSA Now reported, this is the second year of a girls flag football pilot program, with hopes of becoming a Colorado High School Activities Association sanctioned sport for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
“I’m so happy we got here. Last year we let it slip in the championship,” A-West junior Sara Walker said referring to A-West losing to Chatfield in the title game a year ago. “This year we made it all the way through undefeated. We got our revenge.”
“Today was so much fun and just so crazy,” said Sawson, a junior who wears No. 18 in homage to former Broncos QB Peyton Manning. “I’ve been thinking about this game for a while now, so I was a little bit nervous coming into today." (Reported by The Denver Post)
